Have you been to a powwow yet this summer? If you were in southern Alberta last weekend, I hope you made it to the Tsuu T'ina Nation Powwow at Redwood Meadows (near Bragg Creek). This is one of the larger annual celebrations hosted by a Treaty 7 nation, and it seemed even bigger this year. The organizers did a great job of accomodating the large crowds by expanding parking areas and installing overhead flood lights (making your midnight hunt for your vehicle so much easier). Host drums Northern Cree and Bear Creek were great, and the dancing exceptional as always. By the way, I'm not a dancer, more of a spectator, but if I was, I think I'd go for Grass Dancing. Women's Fancy Shawl is featured in the Worst Powwow Photo Ever, below.
